Rocky Mountain Products brand new state of the art USDA certified plant

Founded in 1992 by Todd Goodew, Rocky Mountain Products produces and sells sauces, seasonings, marinades, breadings and processed proteins to large chain grocery delicatessen and meat departments, warehouse stores, and restaurants, primarily throughout the West Coast. These products are used for baking, barbecuing, broiling, dipping, glazing, grilling, sautéing, and stir-frying.

Rocky Mountain's first sauce (BBQ) is based on a recipe that Todd’s Uncle Hoppe spent his lifetime trying to duplicate from his childhood memories in Fort Dodge, Iowa. A restaurant, Treloar’s, just around the corner from where he lived, produced the aroma of roasting ribs and provided the mouth-watering taste of their sauce slathered on the ribs so generously. The ribs were so popular that if you didn’t order by 9 a.m. you missed out on ribs for lunch. As time passed, the restaurant closed down, but the memory of those wonderful ribs and how they tasted never lost their impact on Todd's Uncle Hoppe.

Hoppe’s nephew, Todd Goodew (Rocky Mountain Products Founder & CEO) remembers how long and hard Uncle Hoppe worked to recreate the recipe but never really got it “just right”. Hoppe told Todd the ingredients and shared with him what he was trying to do. From the first taste, Todd knew it was a winner, but that it needed additional development and testing to make it really great. Todd started mixing and experimenting with the recipe during his tour of duty in the Air Force eventually developing the basic formula during that time. When he returned home to Colorado, he treated his family to a barbecue dinner they would never forget. Hoppe said, “Son, I believe you have done it. You finally mastered it!” From then on Todd knew the sauce would always be a very special part of his life.

“I told my uncle that someday I would market the product. Twelve years later, we finally launched into stores with that elusive brand. Unfortunately, Uncle Hoppe died before we got to that point. It’s in his memory I dedicate to him, keeping the name I told him we would use - Rocky Mountain Sauce. The name seemed fitting since the journey began in Colorado. The mountains you see in our logo are the profile of Mt. Hood in Oregon as we are now based in central Oregon where we have beautiful mountain views all around us. It is also where Uncle Hoppe passed away. He was a proud man who liked to cook and entertain his friends, as do I and in this we pass on his legacy through our sauce. Once the taste is experienced, Rocky Mountain Products create that lasting desire for more.”

Rocky Mountain Products has, as to date, over 115 national food industry Awards of Excellence and Certificates of Achievement as evidence of the quality and consistency of the products. Of note, these award records are matched by no other company in the nation. These creative skills are the foundation of an entire range of products that has allowed the company to evolve into an entity that has a competitive advantage of not being just another BBQ sauce producer, but a nationally known company with a great line of products.

In 1992, the company started marketing the original sauce, initially made by a contract manufacturer. A distributor was employed to facilitate retail sales in the Oregon and Washington areas. A decision was made in 1995 for Rocky Mountain Products to create their own manufacturing facility and to change focus from retail to grocery chain delicatessen and meat department niches. A small economic development loan was obtained to purchase equipment, inventory, and leased space. Sales steadily grew as the products’ acceptance continued to expand and new customers and opportunities arose.

Rocky Mountain Products’ leased manufacturing facility expanded from the original 2,000 square feet to 16,000 square feet in 1995. Since then, the company developed it’s equipment and production lines to expand from one product to over 200 product items. Our name and logo are well recognized by the top global grocery retailers including Kroger, Fred Meyer, Haggens, Raleys, QFC, Albertsons, Safeway, Fry’s, Unified Grocers, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and Costco. Our products are readily accepted and requested by key buyers for these stores.

With focus on the grocery chain delicatessen and meat departments, Rocky Mountain Products has developed unique programs customized to each particular customer. These programs train managers and employees on how to use our products (sauces, seasonings, and breadings) to increase their sales. We show them how to provide their customers with restaurant quality food that is great tasting, easy and fast to prepare. These programs provide ongoing support and training, research, and development for new products to stay up with food trends, as well as providing all statistical data to allow each customer to measure their growth in sales while making sure they maintain proper profit margins. Rocky Mountain Products also provides contract manufacturing to several of the customers listed previously for a variety of items to use in their deli programs and meat departments. These requests continue to increase and strengthen our market penetration.

In addition to our focus on the food service markets and contract manufacturing, Rocky Mountain Products will focus on direct to consumer sales of all products on a national basis. There are plans to expand our internet presence, as well as create new marketing programs such as infomercials, kiosk sales, ad campaigns, cooking schools and catering. We will continue expanding our existing product lines while developing and marketing several new sauce and seasoning lines geared towards specific regions of the United States.

With our success in all these markets, (food service, contract manufacturing, retail and direct to consumer), our production schedule and product holding capacity exceeded our leased space. Rocky Mountain Products has recently built a much larger manufacturing facility of 50,000 square feet to meet the growing demands of existing customers and to realize its growth potential to become a nationally recognized company. The new facility has capabilities to create any flavor profile, cook to specification; then, chop, dice, shred, pull or slice the protein. We then cryovac and blast freeze in minutes. This gives you restaurant quality, center-of-the-plate food that you can reconstitute in minutes.

Rocky Mountain Products’ new plant is in Redmond once again. It has local family ties, quality of life, and availability of a motivated workforce that brought Rocky Mountain Products to the Redmond area at the start. From only two employees to now over twenty employees, Rocky Mountain Products will be looking for many more Oregonians to employ at the new plant.
